The Total Eclipse and the US Presidency

On 21 August there will be a total eclipse of the Sun at the end of Leo, that will be visible across much of the USA. Eclipses come in families. They begin as partial eclipses and over the centuries they build towards totality, then they gradually wane. So a total eclipse is  part of a process that has been growing for a long time, and that contributes to its power.

This coming eclipse series began in 1639, with the Sun and Moon at 13.48 Capricorn (The Sun and Moon, are by definition, in the same place on an eclipse.) Does that degree sound familiar? It is bang opposite the Sun in the US Sibly chart, which is at 13.19 Cancer.

The Sun in a country’s chart stands for its leader, as well as the goals of the country. The last 5 eclipses in this series were in 1927, 1945, 1963, 1981 and 1999.

In 1927, President Coolidge announced he would not be standing for another term. In 1945, President Roosevelt died. In 1963, President Kennedy was assassinated. In 1981, there was an assassination attempt on President Reagan, in which he was shot. And in 1999 there was an attempted impeachment of President Clinton, which the Senate rejected.

So over the last century, there has been an absolute correlation between this eclipse series and events which bring about, or attempt to bring about, the end of a Presidency.

A fortiori, with the series peaking in its power, we are likely to see a similar event, or series of events, around Trump’s Presidency. Normally I think of eclipse events as occurring within a few weeks of the actual eclipse, but in this case the evidence is that the events occur anytime during the year of the eclipse.

It’s probably no surprise to anyone that the stars are suggesting that there will be some sort of attempt to remove Trump this year. It’s not my job to infer more than the evidence suggests, so for all those hoping for the demise of Trump, I’m afraid the stars are not promising that. Though they are not discounting it either.

If we look at the eclipse in relation to Trump’s personal chart, it is explosive, it is mega.

Not only is the eclipse 1 degree off his Ascendant at 29.49 Leo, but Mars is also heavily involved. Trump’s natal Mars is at 27 Leo, and the eclipse Mars will be at 21 Leo, just 9 days away from Trump’s Mars return.

Mars Rising in Leo is pretty central to understanding Trump. It is why he is so hotly combative and impulsive, and always has to see himself as a winner, in his case to a pathological degree that denies facts. Trump doesn’t tell ordinary political lies, where the politician knows he/she is lying, and we know they know, and it’s the game we have to put up with. Trump actually believes his lies (as did Tony Blair, another politician with Mars Rising), and that’s a bit disturbing in a leader. And Leo Rising (along with Jupiter aspecting his Sun and Moon) describes his grandiosity (though not everyone with this signature is grandiose!)

So the movement of Mars through the heavens is one key to understanding and even predicting Trump’s actions. A few months ago we saw the first instance of this when Mars crossed Trump’s Midheaven at 24 Taurus. If you are Trump, this is a time for proving you are a tough guy on the world stage.

And he obliged, sabre-rattling with North Korea, and sending a non-existent fleet their way, while dropping the ‘mother of all bombs’ on some caves in Afghanistan.

So we are likely to see more Mars events this month as the planet moves towards its natal position, empowered by the total eclipse. But this time it is on his Asc, rather than on his MC. So it is more likely to involve his personal struggles as President, than his attempts to make an impact on the world stage. It is anyone’s guess what this might be. Trump is finding it very hard to get anything through Congress, even with its Republican majorities; and the Russia investigation is closing in on him, even though there seems to be no evidence that anyone did anything, with its demand to look into his personal finances. My guess is that the man is very frustrated and is likely to lash out and do something that really does cross a legal line, or that raises more questions about his mental state, sometime during August. And then they will try and nail him. Saturn has been retrograde across his Sun and Moon for some months now, and soon after the eclipse will move forward, releasing the frustration.

The US Moon - the people - is at 27 Aquarius, directly opposite the eclipse and Mars in Leo. So while Trump's personal struggle with the Presidency will be part of the eclipse, there is also a wider, war-like meaning for the people. North Korea is the obvious candidate. Trump's Sun in Gemini conjoins the US Mars, and his own Mars is opposite the US Moon. If any President is likely to take the US to war it is Trump, it's almost like how could he not do so?

Trump’s Presidency is part of a bigger picture that centres around Pluto opposing the US Sun by transit. The crossings are over, but Pluto is still within range. Trump is an expression of the US creating a new identity for herself, and not really knowing who she is right now (the UK, with Pluto opposing her Moon, is in a similar kind of place, and Brexit and a minority government are the expression of that.)

US Sibly Chart
The US has Sun in Cancer. So caring for her own people and natural environment is an important part of her nature.

But the Sun is square natal 10th House Saturn. So power and ambition tends to override that impulse, and we can see the attempts to overturn Obamacare as an expression of that. The square between the Sun and Saturn is the most important aspect in the US Chart (IMO), and Saturn usually wins. The protest at Standing Rock was another example, and Saturn ultimately won, through the Sun made some good headway. The US will be at peace with itself once it resolves this square, if ever. The recent Pluto transit to both Sun and Saturn represents another stage along the way.

The events around this eclipse are likely to be important significators as to the meaning of the US Pluto-Sun transit, which is likely to be prolonged as the US moves into its first Pluto Return in 5 years’ time.
